With his 50th home run of the season during the eighth inning of the New York Mets’ series opener versus the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark in southeast Ohio, Pete Alonso broke a three-way tie between himself, Howard Johnson (1989), and Carlos Beltran (2006) for the most extra-base hits in a single-season by a Mets player.

Alonso, 24, came into Friday with a .266/.366/.590 slash line, an MLB-leading 49 homers, 113 RBIs, 29 doubles, a .391 wOBA, and 147 wRC+.

With his 50th on Friday, the University of Florida product is now just two home runs shy of Aaron Judge‘s MLB single-season rookie record of 52 home runs with nine games left to play.

Alonso’s nine RBIs short of Mike Piazza‘s single-season franchise RBI record of 124, set in 1999, and 15 RBIs shy of the MLB rookie RBI record (Albert Pujols, 130, 2001).

While he’s a far cry from the likes of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, who notched 119 and 117 extra-base hits in 1921 and 1927, respectively, what Pete Alonso’s accomplished over his first season in Major League Baseball is absolutely phenomenal.

Congratulations, Pete!
