In the first game in a series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night, Pete Alonso hit his 42nd home run of the season. The solo home run broke the single-season franchise record of 41 homers, set by Todd Hundley in 1996 and tied by Carlos Beltran in 2006.

The National League Rookie of The Year contender is the first rookie to set a team record since Johnny Rizzo in 1938 with 23 homers for the Pirates.

Alonso, who tied the single-season record with his 41st home run just two days ago, is now tied with Cody Bellinger and Mike Trout for home runs this season. As a Home Run Derby Champion, it’s only right that Alonso continues to break home run records. The MLB rookie home run record is currently held by Aaron Judge, hitting 52 homers in his first major league season in 2017.

With just over 30 games left in the season, there is a good chance Alonso will set himself well ahead of record-breaking numbers moving forward.
