In another spectacular outing from Mike Pelfrey, the Mets put up enough offense to beat the Cubs 4-0 for their second straight victory.

Game Notes:

In a game that was fairly stagnant offensively, Mike Pelfrey managed to hold the Cubs to 6 total baserunners – 3 on hits and 3 on walks in 7 innings. What makes this occurrence even more amazing is the fact Mike Pelfrey pitched an inning in the 2-1 20 inning marathon of a game on Saturday. Big Pelf looked good, mixing his pitches and getting out of any trouble with ease. This was another great outing by Pelfrey.

The bullpen remained stellar, allowing 2 baserunners on 2 walks, with 3 strikeouts. Ryota Igarashi came out for 2/3 of an inning, and Everyday Nieve came out to strike out 1 in 1/3 of an inning. Francisco Rodriguez came out for the ninth and walked two, but struck out two in his inning of work.

The Mets bats were revitalized with a reassuring appearance from Jose Reyes, going 4-5 with 2 RBI and a stolen base and his first triple of the year. Reyes booked it to third base on the triple, scoring Angel Pagan and Mike Pelfrey in the 2nd. Fernando Tatis added some insurance with a 2 run home run in the 8th to seal the deal for the Mets.

Jason Bay, Jeff Francoeur and Ike Davis went 0-9 with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts, David Wright went hitless, but tonight none of that mattered.

Turning Point

Jose Reyes triple in the 2nd provided just the spark the Mets needed against the dormant Cubs bats.

Game Ball

Jose Reyes, the table setter is back. Its amazing what a days rest can bring; a 4-5, 2 RBI, 1 SB day.
