The Padres and 2014 All-Star shortstop Alexei Ramirez have agreed to a one-year deal according to to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter).

Ramirez, 34, had a down year in 2015, hitting only .249 with 10 home runs. However, he did hit .277 after the All Star break which is more in line with his career numbers.

In his career, Ramirez is a .273/.310/.399 hitter over eight seasons with the White Sox, and averages about 30 doubles, 14 homers and 18 stolen bases a season. He’s won two Silver Slugger awards at shortstop.

Many thought Ramirez to be a target for the Mets earlier this offseason, but Sandy Alderson opted to give a two year contract to Asdrubal Cabrera instead.
