The Mets announced that left-hander P.J. Conlon will start in place of Jacob deGrom tomorrow. This start will be his MLB debut.

The 24-year old has started five games at Triple-A Las Vegas this season in which he has gone 1-2 with a 6.75 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched.

Conlon minor league career numbers are much stronger as he has posted a 21-14 record, 2.68 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 266 strikeouts in 319 innings.

He was named 2016 Organizational Pitcher of the Year after going 12-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 24 games (23 starts) during his time with the Columbus Fireflies and St. Lucie Mets.

As Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com notes, Conlon will become the first Irish born player in MLB since World War II.

His first stint in the majors likely will not last long as deGrom is set to rejoin the rotation one week from today against the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Mets placed Jacob deGrom on the 10-day DL and added Conlon to both the 40-man roster and active roster in a corresponding move.
