R.A. Dickey was in trouble early, but the Mets offense couldn’t put across the runs when they needed it and lost the first game of the series against the Phillies 3-2.
Game Notes
R.A. Dickey was about as effective as he has been in his last few outings, giving up three runs, two earned on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts. R.A. was wild in the first two innings, having trouble locating and throwing some flat knuckleballs. Yet again, R.A. had another hit and has become the best hitting pitcher on the Mets, which isn’t saying much.
The bullpen was tremendous as usual, with Elmer Dessens going a perfect inning, Pedro Feliciano striking out one in his third of an inning and Manny Acosta nailing the other two-thirds of an inning shut with a strikeout.
The offense accounted for two runs, both on an Angel Pagan home run that scored Ike Davis. Jerry Manuel mixed the batting order up today, batting Lucas Duda second and Angel Pagan sixth. Lucas Duda had his worst day in about a week, going 0-4 with 3 K’s. If you were a New York Met and you started, and your name wasn’t Davis, Wright or Pagan then you didn’t get a hit. End of the season, not much positive to say
Ruben Tejada stayed in on a tough takeout slide by Chase Utley. I’d like to see some retaliation tomorrow, because it was borderline dirty and if he was injured it would’ve been declared so. Maybe thats what this team needs, some reason to be passionate. If it isn’t defending teammates, it should be striking fear into their opponents
Turning Point
In the ninth inning, two men on, two out brings in Jesus Feliciano to face Brad Lidge. Why anyone else wasn’t pinch-hitting, I don’t know.
Game Ball
From this point on, every game ball will go to the fans who are still watching the games, even as the Mets play passionless baseball.

The Mets will look to tie the series, sending Dillon Gee to the mound to face-off against Kyle Kendrick. Game time is 7:10 P.M.
