According to Jane Lee of MLB.com, the Oakland Athletics have come to terms with free-agent catcher, Jonathan Lucroy on a one-year deal.
After receiving some interest from his former employer, the Colorado Rockies, with nothing transpiring, the eight-year veteran agreed to take his talents to Oakland.
The longtime Milwaukee Brewers backstop, Lucroy, 31, is coming off of a down year that saw him hit .265/.345/.371 with six home runs, 40 RBI and 84 OPS+ in 481 at-bats, splitting the season between Texas and Colorado.
His 2017 numbers were well below his career .281/.343/.433 slash line and 162-game averages of 16 home runs and 76 RBI. He also graded out as one of the worst defensive catchers in baseball according to Baseball Prospectus.
Lucroy will likely be inserted into Oakland’s lineup as the starting catcher. He also has 47 games of major league first base experience in his career.
The Mets were reportedly interested in possibly adding Lucroy during the offseason, but nothing ever came of the rumors.
