We all remember Noah Syndergaard coming out of the bullpen in Game 5 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and pitching a huge scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts including the red-hot Justin Turner to end that inning.
On Tuesday night, it was deja vu as Syndergaard once again came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning to preserve ia 4-3 Mets lead.
Just as he did in Game 5, Syndergaard pitched a scoreless inning with two Ks. He worked around an error by Asdrubal Cabrera and a stolen base, striking out power hitting Todd Frazier to end the threat.
His fastball consistently sat between 100 and 101 mph while his slider was around 94 mph. He threw a 92 mph changeup to strike out Frazier.
“I was a little nervous, but it was the same job,” Syndergaard said. “I loved it. It was fun pitching out of the bullpen.”
The Mets were planning to use Syndergaard out of the bullpen and wanted to get him some work. He threw just 34 pitches in his last start on Saturday, after being ejected for throwing behind Chase Utley against the Dodgers.
Syndergaard’s next scheduled start is Friday vs the Miami Marlins. He is 5-2 this season with a 1.84 ERA and 0.958 WHIP in 63.2 innings with 81 strikeouts.
