The American League Championship Series was the only game action on Thursday with the Houston Astros winning Game 2 to take a 2-0 lead over the New York Yankees.

Astros’ third baseman Alex Bregman hit a three-run homer in the third inning that the Houston pitching staff made hold up in the 3-2 win. Framber Valdez allowed only two unearned runs over seven innings and struck out nine.

The Padres got home runs from Brandon Drury, Josh Bell, and Manny Machado in their comeback 8-5 win over the Phillies to even the series up at one game apiece on Wednesday.

Right-hander Joe Musgrove (1-0, 1.38 ERA) will get the start for the Padres on Friday. Musgrove dominated the Mets with seven innings of one-hit scoreless ball in the Wild Card Series and then pitched six innings of two-run ball against the Dodgers in the Division Series, both games the Padres won.

Left-hander Ranger Suárez (0-0, 2.70 ERA) will be on the mound for the Phillies. The 27-year-old made his first playoff appearance in the Division Series as he allowed only one run but lasted just 3 1/3 innings.
