Atlanta Braves: (1-2; -6.5)
The Braves lost two of three to the lowly Orioles, over the weekend. Derek Lowe was absolutely rocked on Sunday, giving up 7ER in 2.1 IP. The day before, their bullpen couldn’t hold the lead, giving the Braves an 8-4 loss. They open up a three game series in Cincinnati.
Florida Marlins: (3-0; -6)
The Marlins swept a three game series from the Toronto Blue Jays. Jays ace Roy Halladay left Friday’s game with a pulled groin. Florida will head to Boston to play the Red Sox. The Sox and Fish are bound together because of a little trade that happened on Thanksgiving Day, 2005. The Red Sox sent Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez to the Marlins for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. The Red Sox got a Yankee-killer and a World Series MVP, the Marlins got a no-hitter and the best SS in the NL.
Philadelphia Phillies: (1-2; leader)
The Phillies lost two of three to the Boston Red Sox, and will open up a three game series at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. This probably could be a sweep, as Halladay will miss his start.
Washington Nationals: (0-3; -20)
To no one’s surprise, the lowly Nats were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. Though talk has surfaced of the Nats being interested in fomer Met manager Bobby Valentine. For all intents and purposes, when Manny Acta is fired, Jim Riggleman will likely step in as interim manager. Keeping the Met-ional theme, the Nationals are rumored to have interest in Pedro Martinez and/or Tom Glavine.
Other Notes:
This isn’t NL East related, but Angels ace John Lackey faces the San Francisco Giants for the 1st time since Game 7 of the 2002 World Series. Interestingly, his opponent in Game 7 was Livan Hernandez. If the season ended today, the Giants would be the wild-card team.
Tonight, SNY will be showing Game 4 of the 1969 World Series.
