Brandon Nimmo was pulled from tonight’s game in the bottom of the first inning following the pitching substitution of Drew Gagnon for Steven Matz. Nimmo ran out of room on a three-run homer off the bat of Maikel Franco one pitch earlier, and complained of neck pains shortly thereafter. He was replaced by Juan Lagares.

The Mets announced that Nimmo left the game with a stiff neck.

Nimmo appeared to have misread a double from J.T. Realmuto earlier in the inning, backing up on a ball that landed in the gap a couple of yards short of the warning track, and footage showed the outfielder wincing and reaching for the back of his neck following the leadoff walk, as well.

Two nights prior, Nimmo crashed into the center field fence at SunTrust Park in Atlanta to make an inning-ending catch, but otherwise hadn’t displayed any symptoms leading up to his start tonight. We will keep you updated as details continue to emerge.
