Everybody’s talking but no one has an answer.

The Mets continue to finalize their candidate list for their President of Baseball Operations. Monday’s rumors confirmed the ending of one major courtship and the supposed starts of others.

New York’s dream wish list of one of Billy Beane, David Stearns of Theo Epstein was officially erased Monday afternoon after the Milwaukee Brewers denied the Mets request to interview Stearns. Beane and Epstein had already stated they have no interest in the position.

This is the second year in a row that the Mets had been denied the ability to speak to Stearns.

The Mets received permission from the Athletics for Sandy Alderson to interview Beane, according to Joel Sherman. Beane then told Alderson he was withdrawing from consideration.

The Mets can now focus on realistic candidates with the big three gone.

Rumors circled that the Mets had Mike Hill and Doug Melvin on potential president of baseball operations lists. Sherman reports neither were contacted by the Mets and that Melvin is not interested. Melvin was a finalist for the job when the franchise offered the role to Brodie Van Wagenen.

New York is still interested in Los Angeles Dodger executives Josh Byrnes and Brandon Gomes. Neither are available to speak with the Mets until the Dodgers are eliminated from the playoffs.

MMOs Michael Mayer reports the Mets really like Gomes even though the Dodgers might promote him to GM and they are not as optimistic about Byrnes. Another name Mayer points to is Bobby Heck of the Tampa Bay Rays organization. The team hasn’t asked to interview Heck but could circle back.

And when you think the list couldn’t get any broader, former Pirates’ first baseman Dorian Boyland has his name on the Mets list. Boyland is currently the CEO of a national car dealership. He has not spoken with the Mets and is happy with his cars, per Sherman.
