We do not have word yet on when baseball will resume, but we now have a better idea as to how long we will be going without it. Or, at the very least, how long it will be until we can all gather again in a ballpark and watch our Metsies.

As of Sunday, new guidance from the CDC states that for the next eight weeks, any event or gathering that has 50 or more people in attendance should be cancelled or postponed. This means it is safe to assume that baseball will not be back until mid-May. Even without fans in attendance at games, between the teams, umpires, security and media, the number 50 is easily surpassed.

Of course, these guidelines can change as things evolve and we hope that would be the case. We can only hope that coronavirus is contained and things are under control. But until then, we do have to stay safe and this new guidance from the CDC isn’t shocking. At the same time, it’s devastating to hear that we will likely have to go another eight weeks without baseball.

As of this morning, Mets’ minors camp was shut down and the MLB saw its first case of coronavirus from a Yankees minor league testing positive.

We will continue to keep you posted as we learn more. Trust us, we want baseball back just as much as you do. But until then, we just have to be safe.
