While April wasn’t a month to write home about for Mets’ second baseman Neil Walker, the 31-year-old has picked up his game with the turn of the calendar.
Walker went 2-for-5 out of the cleanup spot for New York on Saturday in Milwaukee, hitting a solo home run off of Zach Davies, his fourth of the year.
On Friday, Walker had another quality day at this dish against the Brewers, going 3-for-3 with another long ball.
May has been good to walker, who is batting .333 (15-for-45) this month compared to the dismal .195 (17-for-87) he put up in April.
Earlier this week, Walker gave the Mets an exciting 4-3 walk-off win against the San Francisco Giants at Citi Field and his continued his production in the wake of all that has gone wrong for the team in the first month and a half of the campaign.
Altogether, Walker has raised his slash line to .242/.320/.409 on the season with four home runs and 19 RBI.
Should the Mets battle for the wins they so desperately need in this trying time, it will come from efforts from players like Neil Walker, who batted .282/.347/.476 with 23 home runs and 55 RBI in 2016 to step up and provide a spark for the Mets with the absence of Yoenis Cespedes in the heart of the lineup.
