Game Notes

Dillon Gee has posted a 4.82 ERA on his way to a 5-7 record, but he is 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA in eight career starts against Washington. Gee has posted a 2.62 ERA (10 earned runs/34.1 innings) over his last five starts, going 3-1 dating back to May 30.

Eric Young extended his hitting streak to seven games last night, one shy of his career-high. Young is hitting .419 (13-31) during that current stretch. Since joining the Mets on June 19,  Young is batting .359 (14-39) with five runs scored, four doubles and six RBI.

Since June 5, David Wright is hitting .384 (33-86) with 13 runs scored, nine doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI over a span
of 20 games. His on-base percentage is .424 during that span. Wright has at least one hit in 14 of his last 16 games. He is ninth in the National League with a .387 on-base percentage, 10th with a .525 slugging percentage, tied for sixth with five triples and ninth with 14 stolen bases.

Ruben Tejada played five innings at shortstop for the rookie level Gulf Coast League Mets yesterday, and went 1-2 with a double. It was his first minor league rehabilitation game. Tejada has been on the Disabled List since May 30 with a right quad strain.

Washington’s top pitching prospect Taylor Jordan will make his debut today. Jordan went 2-1 with a 1.24 ERA for Class A Potomac to start the year, before being promoted to Double-A Harrisburg. With the Senators, Jordan was 7-0 with a 0.83 ERA and 43 strikeouts in nine games.

Ian Desmond homered for the second consecutive game on Friday, as the shortstop has continued to be one of the hottest hitters in baseball. He went 2-for-4 and smacked the go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning to propel the Nationals to their 6-4 win. Desmond is batting .276 on the season and has topped the .300 mark in June, with eight home runs.

The Mets had a disappointing end to last night’s game as our stellar closer had a hiccup, which is bound to happen throughout the course of the season. The Mets as a steam look to bounce back today with Dillon Gee on the mound as he takes on Taylor Jordan who is making his major league debut today.

Dillon Gee is 5-7 on the season with a 4.82 ERA pitching 84.0 innings over 15 starts. For the first time in a while he struggled in his last outing allowing 5 ER over 5.0 innings.
