According to Jon Heyman of Fancred, the Washington Nationals have had trade talks with the Cincinnati Reds seeking pitching help. Two of the names that Washington has shown interest in include closer Raisel Iglesias and former Met Matt Harvey.
The Reds acquired Harvey from the Mets on May 8 for catcher Devin Mesoraco. Since joining Cincy, Harvey has pitched consistently well.
In his past three outings, Harvey is 3-0 with a 1.47 ERA and has struck out 14 batters in 18.1 innings. The righty has said that he has felt better than he did at any point since 2013.
Harvey has certainly shown that, as there is no question his velocity has been up a notch since leaving the Mets. Over his past five starts, Harvey is averaging around 95 MPH on his fastball as opposed to the 92 MPH he averaged in New York.
As for Iglesias, he would only further deepen the Nationals already loaded bullpen. Over the past three seasons, he has revived his career as the Reds closer.
Some teams do also view the current closer as a starting pitching option. The hard throwing righty has recorded 50 saves, struck out 216 batters, and posted a 2.49 ERA over 191 innings.
