Nationals And Patrick Corbin Agree To Six-Year Deal

Per Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, the Nationals have agreed to terms on a six-year deal with free agent starting pitcher Patrick Corbin. Jon Heyman of FanCred reports the deal is worth $140 million.

Coming an hour after Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Phillies made it clear that they wouldn’t be “out-bid”, the 29-year-old joins a rotation that already includes Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, Tanner Roark, and Joe Ross.

The Yankees had been the presumptive favorite, though many reports say they refused to give Corbin more than five years in a deal.

In his breakout season with the Diamondbacks, the lefty finished 5th in Cy Young voting due to his 3.15 ERA and 2.47 FIP across 200.0 innings. He went 11-7 with 246 strikeouts and just 48 walks over 33 starts.
