Game Summary
The Mets beat a defensively shoddy Reds team on Tuesday night by the score of 8-6 and climbed one game over .500 for the season. Cincinnati committed three errors and allowed the Mets to score six unearned runs, but hey – a win is a win.
Game Notes
Jon Niese started for the Mets and allowed one run through the first four innings before unraveling in the fifth inning and allowing four runs capped off by a two-run homer to left field by Joey Votto. Niese pitched five innings and allowed five runs on six hits while striking out five. The young lefthander becomes the first Mets starter to win ten games.
Pedro Beato was given the chance to close it out in the ninth, but was replaced by Tim Byrdak who came in with two outs and a runner on second and got Jay Bruce to strike out to pick up his first save since 2007. It was the second night in a row Byrdak fanned Votto.
Carlos Beltran went 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored, and has now reached base safely in a career high 32 consecutive games.
Daniel Murphy picked up his third straight multi-hit game and went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. He now has forty-six RBI.
Jason Pridie filled in for Angel Pagan and went 2-5 with a double, and two RBI.
David Wright had two more hits and is now 10-for-24 since returning from the disabled list last Friday. He’s definitely in the zone.
