Sometimes, you just need to tip your cap… Our Mets lost 2-0 across the Northern border to the Jays on Saturday afternoon.

Summary

The last recap I penned had to do with Zack Greinke, and this game brought upon another great pitching talent in Brandon Morrow. Sometimes, there is absolutely nothing you can do. You can not win if you can not score. Simple as that.

Brandon Morrow dominated the Mets with 8 K in a 3-hit shutout, who had nothing go Wright – including the present of Wright, who was on the bench today. Baxter, Duda, and Cedeno put together the only hits against Morrow – and a PH-BB by Hairston rounded out the entire offense. At least Duda’s hit was a two-bagger.

On the flip side, the injury bug bit the Mets once again…seriously, is it not getting tired of tasting Met blood? Batista left after 2 scoreless with a bad back, allowing only a hit and walk over those two frames. Jeremy Hefner took over after and pitched the following 5 innings (talk about Yeoman’s work out of the pen) and allowed 4 H and 2 ER. He took the loss in this one. Byrdak and Rauch rounded out the eighth to close the book on the Mets pitching for the day.

Error on Torres today – second of the year so far.

Something worth noting, at the very least, was the controversial call at second base in the ninth. Replay showed that Mike Baxter was incorrectly called out after a missed tag by Escobar – which got Collins pretty upset. I guess it was just one of those days where it all piled up on the Amazins’.

A correct call would have given the Mets with runners on second and third for Murphy – but the blown call made it Hairston alone on third with two down. Duda would have had at least a shot to tie the game, so at the very least, it makes you wonder…

Goat Of The Game

Honestly, I am not sure who to fault in this one. Hefner did a pretty good job out of the pen even though he allowed the 2 Toronto runs. In the grand scheme, it did not really matter anyway, because Morrow just had his good stuff.

Notes

So no Wright, Bay, Tejada, or Thole in this one and we lose our starter. Tough. Another one bites the dust…

A lot of buzz in the Mets Minors recently.

Umpiring this year is seriously becoming a problem. I am beginning to favor the concept of Umps being able to overrule each other on the field if one has a better view than the other. Ol’ Blue needs an eye exam…

On Deck

Tomorrow, the Mets throw Dillon Gee out there to the Canadian Air to matchup against Henderson Alvarez of the Jays. The Mets try to avoid the sweep at 1:07.
