Originally reported by Bob Nightengale that the Mets made a “record” offer (based on average annual value) to Trevor Bauer, multiple reports came out quickly refuting that claim.

Rather, updated reports said the Mets did make an offer to Bauer a couple weeks ago (while Jared Porter was still GM) and the Mets are still doing their due diligence on their end.

Later in the night, Mike Puma reported that Bauer would most likely pick the Mets over another team if contract offers were close due to the ability to build his brand in the New York market.

Mets prospect Brett Baty (No. 3 in the system) was named one of the best third base prospects in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

The Baseball Hall of Fame announced no player on its 25-man ballot received enough votes from the Baseball Writers Association of America to be enshrined in Cooperstown this year.

The leading vote-getter was the controversial Curt Shilling (71.1 percent, 75 percent needed), who after a snub on his ninth year on the ballot asked to be taken off the ballot for his 10th and final year.

Former Met Billy Wagner‘s candidacy has gained steam over the last couple years, and he reached 46.4 percent with this year’s vote. Other notable vote getters–and only ones above 50 percent–were Barry Bonds (61.8), Rodger Clemens (61.4) and Scott Rolen (52.9).

It’s the first year since 2013 that no player was named to the Hall of Fame and only third year since 1972.

J.T. Realmuto will return to the Philadelphia Phillies with a five-year, 115.5 million contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Shortstop (turned second baseman) Marcus Semien will play with the Toronto Blue Jays next season one a one-year, $18 million prove-it contract. He will play second base for the Jays to allow Bo Bichette to play shortstop.

On the other hand, Andrelton Simmons, one of the best defensive shortstops ever, signed a one-year, $10.5 million deal with the Minnesota Twins, according to Jeff Passan.

Second baseman Cesár Hernández re-signed with Cleveland, according to Daniel Álvarez Montes. Jon Heyman says Hernández will get $5 million in 2021.

Kolten Wong‘s market is “heating up,” according to Jon Morosi, and teams like the Cardinals, Rays, Tigers, Cubs, and Phillies are all in for his services.
