Good morning Mets fans! Jay Bruce passed his physical yesterday, and is officially back. He will be introduced at Citi Field this morning. There were also some rumblings around trade talks between the Mets and the Pirates.

Latest Mets News

According to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic, the Mets declined an offer from the Pirates which included outfielder Brandon Nimmo in a possible deal for Andrew McCutchen.

Rosenthal also said the Mets believe they could use Nimmo as a centerpiece of a deal for utility man Josh Harrison. Harrison told the Athletic on Tuesday that he would prefer to be traded if the Pirates will not contend in 2018 and 2019.

However, with free agents such as Eduardo Nunez and Jose Reyes still available the Mets may again be hesitant to move the 25-year old Nimmo.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Jay Bruce passed his physical and the Mets have scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m.

Puma also said that he has heard the Mets are taking the approach that if healthy, Adrian Gonzalez will probably be their first baseman to start the 2018 season. If that is the case, there is a good chance Dominic Smith will begin the season in Triple-A.
