Morning Briefing: Wander Franco Detained in Dominican Republic

Good morning, Mets fans!

Wander Franco was arrested in the Dominican Republic on Monday for missing his meeting Thursday with the prosecutor investigating him for alleged relationships with underage girls. Juan Recio of ESPN noted that Franco’s arrest was only for missing his summons and does not indicate that there has been progress in the investigation.

The Cubs have hired Jason Kanzler to be the team’s new director of player development. Kanzler has spent the last three seasons with the Astros’ organization, most recently as the team’s assistant hitting coach. Additionally, the Cubs are promoting Ryan Otero to be their new director of pitching. Otero has been with the Cubs since 2018 and worked as Craig Breslow‘s assistant this past year.
