NL Wild Card Standings Update

Since there weren’t many games scheduled yesterday, the Mets will start their three-game series in Chicago against the Cubs today still tied with the Reds for the third and final NL Wild Card spot (with the Reds holding the tiebreaker). The first game of the series will have David Peterson (9-6, 3.98 ERA) going up against Cade Horton (11-4, 2.66 ERA) at 7:40 p.m. ET.

The only game on Monday to the Mets’ concern was between the Cardinals and Giants. San Francisco lost, 6-5. The Giants fall to 3.5 games out of the Wild Card, putting them nearly out of the race at this point. The Diamondbacks are still very much in it, at exactly one game behind the Mets and Reds.

The Padres beat the Brewers 5-4 in 11 innings. With the win, the Padres clinched a playoff berth. They sit 5.5 games ahead of the Mets for the second Wild Card spot.
