Good morning Mets fans! The New York Mets (16-15) split their series with the Cincinnati Reds (13-18) as Noah Syndergaard (2-3, 5.02 ERA) led the Mets’ pitching and hitting in the Mets’ 1-0 victory over the Reds on Thursday afternoon at Citi Field.

A day after Jacob deGrom returned to form with a seven-inning shutout, Syndergaard followed suit and then some. Thor had a historic game as he was the first MLB player since Bob Welch in 1983 to record a complete game shutout while also putting up the only run between both sides via a home run.
The Mets open up a three-game series on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. Steven Matz (3-1, 3.68 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets opposite Brandon Woodruff (3-1, 5.17 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 pm EDT and coverage will be provided by SNY, WCBS 880 AM and ESPN 1050 AM.

1938: Former Met Chris Cannizzaro was born.
2008: Carlos Delgado‘s 435th career home run moved him up to 36th on the all-time MLB home run list. It also made him the all-time home run leader for players born in Puerto Rico.
2014: Jenrry Mejia‘s groundout brought the Mets pitching staff’s collective hitless streak to 0-for-46 since Opening Day. That mark set the record for longest hitless streak by a pitching staff to start the year. The previous record was set by the St. Louis Browns in 1914. The Mets went on to extend it to 0-for-64, with their first hit coming off the bat of deGrom in his first MLB plate appearance.
2015: The Nationals beat the Mets by a score of 1-0 at Citi Field for the second consecutive day. It was the first time a road opponent pulled off two 1-0 victories in consecutive days since the Cardinals accomplished the feat in 1996 against the Phillies.
