The Rangers have moved Jacob deGrom to the 60-day IL and activated right-hander Spencer Howard. DeGrom isn’t eligible to be reinstated until June 28. Rangers general manager Chris Young said he’s confident deGrom will pitch again this year, but his timetable still isn’t clear. The 34-year-old has been out since the last weekend in April with elbow inflammation.

The Braves optioned former All-Star Mike Soroka to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, a week after he made his season debut. The 25-year-old finally made it back to the majors after missing two full seasons and two Achilles tears, but he was rocked for nine runs and 12 hits with six walks in 9 2/3 innings across his two starts.

Meanwhile, the Mets are in Atlanta to begin a three-game series against the Braves. Entering the series, the Mets trail Atlanta by 5.5 games in the NL East. The Braves took two of three at Citi Field at the end of April, and have won the season series with the Mets each of the last five seasons. Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 5.74 ERA) will look to keep his season trending in the right direction against the majors’ ERA leader, Bryce Elder (3-0, 1.92 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm.

The Mets have designated Tomás Nido for assignment and activated Omar Narváez from the 60-day injured list. Narváez had been out since early April with a calf strain. Nido missed time due to Dry Eye Syndrome, but when he was healthy, he went just 7-for-56 at the plate with no extra-base hits. Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the expectation is for the Mets to work out a trade involving Nido.

Shea, the Mets Vet Dog, went off to training to become a service dog on Monday. He will be working with America’s VetDogs to become a service dog for a veteran or a first responder with disabilities.

1992: Eddie Murray drives in the 1,510th run of his career, passing Mickey Mantle for the most ever by a switch hitter. In addition to Murray’s milestone, Bobby Bonilla goes 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, and Todd Hundley and Chico Walker both hit three-run homers as the Mets rout the Pirates, 15-1. Every player in the Mets’ lineup collects at least one hit, including starting pitcher Sid Fernandez, who goes 3-for-5 and throws a complete game.

2003: Facing off against the Mariners for the first time, the Mets end Seattle’s 13-game road winning streak behind homers from Jason Phillips and Cliff Floyd. Jae-Wong Seo outduels Ryan Franklin on the mound, surrendering just one earned run in seven innings despite allowing eight hits and four walks.

2011: With the 13th overall pick in the First-Year Player Draft, the Mets select outfielder Brandon Nimmo from East High School in Wyoming. Nimmo is coming off a big year in Legion ball, hitting .448 with 15 homers and 34 steals in 70 games.

2022: Eduardo Escobar becomes the first Met since 2012 to hit for the cycle, driving in six runs in the process as the Mets beat the Padres at Petco Park, 11-5. Carlos Carrasco earns his seventh win of the year, striking out 10 in seven strong innings.
