2001: Outgoing New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani announced a tentative agreement the Mets and Yankees reached with the city to build two $800 million, retractable roof stadiums. The stadiums, which ultimately became Citi Field and the new Yankee Stadium, were built without retractable roofs.
