Good morning, Mets fans!

On the day the Mets dropped another embarrassing game to the Milwaukee Brewers, young Mets prospect Brett Baty left a minor league game in the fourth injury due to an apparent thumb injury. Sources say this is the same thumb that held Baty out for the remaining part of the 2022 campaign.

During the bottom half of the third inning, the Syracuse Mets third baseman swung at a pitch and left the box to tend to his thumb. After trainers came out to aid Baty, he returned to the batter’s box, drew a walk and was then taken out of the game.

The Mets sent Max Scherzer to the mound to hopefully make up for the rough series opener against the Brewers, a game where New York lost 10-0. The Brewers jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Brian Anderson hit an RBI double.

This would smooth out for Scherzer through the next few innings, but the bottom of the sixth was where the game fell apart for him and the Mets. Rowdy Tellez, Anderson and Garrett Mitchell went back-to-back-to-back with solo home runs as they extended the Brewers’ lead and eventually knocked out Scherzer, 5-0.

The Brewers poured it on more against Mets reliever Brooks Raley as Anderson collected three more RBIs with a three-run homer, giving him a total of six on the day (and a clear favorite for player of the game). Mitchell made it back-to-back homers off Raley as he hit a solo shot to cap off the scoring at 9-0.

The Mets middle of the order continues to disappoint, with the No. 2-5 hitters collecting no hits in 16 at-bats. On the bright side, Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil each collected three hits for the Mets, with Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar each knocking a base hit respectively.

The Mets try to avoid the sweep on Wednesday as they send David Peterson to the mound against Corbin Burnes. Wednesday’s game starts at 1:40 p.m. and will return home on Thursday for their home opener against the Miami Marlins.

Speaking of Opening Day, the late Bob Murphy’s three children, Kelly, Kasey and Brian will throw out the first pitch at the Mets’ home opener, according to MMO‘s own Michael Mayer. The Murphys will be there to honor their dad whose name and years of service will be placed on the roof at Citi Field.
