Good morning, Mets fans!

Daniel Vogelbach hit his second homer in the last four days and drove in three runs, and Francisco Lindor hit a three-run homer and drove in five as the Mets beat the Astros in Houston for the first time in 12 years, 11-1. Max Scherzer was strong on the mound, tossing eight innings and allowing just one run on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Right-hander Grant Hartwig, who was just called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his big league debut to close the game out. Francisco Álvarez left the game after he was hit on the hand by a foul ball in the eighth inning. Initial X-rays on his hand came back negative.

Justin Verlander (2-3, 4.45 ERA) will take the mound against his former teammate tonight, while southpaw Framber Valdez (6-5, 2.27 ERA) will look to keep his magnificent season going. Verlander received his 2022 World Series ring before Monday night’s contest. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m.

Overall, Lucchesi has a strong 2.33 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings for Syracuse this year. Should the Mets need another starter at some point, Lucchesi seems to be first in line for that spot.
