Tommy Pham collected three more hits, Pete Alonso homered and drove in three runs, and David Peterson put together another solid outing as the Mets beat the Giants to clinch their first series victory since they swept the Phillies from May 30-June 1. Peterson gave up a run in the second inning but held the Giants to just that run on three hits, walking three and striking out three in four innings. The Mets took the lead with three runs in the third inning thanks to three walks, a hit batsman, a Jeff McNeil single, and an error. Grant Hartwig tossed two scoreless innings to earn his first major league victory, and Dominic Leone, Brooks Raley, Adam Ottavino, and David Robertson combined to record the last seven outs after the Giants scored three runs to draw closer.

The Mets have a day off today before beginning a three-game series against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Tuesday afternoon. Kodai Senga (6-5, 3.52 ERA) will toe the rubber against veteran right Zach Davies (1-4, 6.54 ERA).

All-Star Game rosters were revealed on Sunday, and Pete Alonso is the Mets’ lone representative for next week’s festivities in Seattle. This is Alonso’s third All-Star Game selection. Additionally, Alonso announced during Sunday night’s game that he will be participating in the Home Run Derby once again. He will look to win his third derby after falling short in 2022.

Buck Showalter told reporters that José Quintana will definitely make another rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse before returning to the majors. Quintana threw 64 pitches in his last rehab start but had trouble with his command.

With five Home Run Derby participants having been revealed, MLB extended an invite to Braves slugger Matt Olson, but he declined. Olson has an NL-leading 28 home runs on the season and participated in the event back in 2021.

The Angels made a few roster moves before Sunday’s action, placing infielder Brandon Drury on the injured list with left shoulder contusion. The team recalled Andrew Velazquez to take Drury’s place and released Jake Lamb.

The Nationals have signed right-hander Daniel Mengden to a minor league contract. The 30-year-old has spent his MLB career with the A’s and Royals and owns a 4.65 ERA in 309 2/3 big league innings.
