Morning Briefing: Mets Wait Anxiously for Jeff McNeil Injury Update

The Mets lose to the Braves in a 5-3 final, despite showing late-inning life in the eighth. Zack Wheeler threw five innings Tuesday night giving up five runs on 12 hits to their division rival. Juan Lagares went 4-for-4 on the day, the fifth four-hit game of his career. Todd Frazier also had a good game with two hits on the day. Brad Brach and Drew Gagnon each threw a scoreless inning, while Luis Avilan and Jeurys Familia had a combined scoreless inning of work.

Steven Matz (7-7, 4.49) will face off against Dallas Keuchel (3-5, 4.83) on Wednesday night in game two of this three-game series at Suntrust Park. The game has a scheduled start time of 7:20 p.m. EST and will be broadcasted on SNY, WCBS 880 AM, and ESPN 1050 AM.

In the top of the ninth inning Tuesday, Jeff McNeil was trying to run out an infield hit and came up lame when passing first base and being called out. He bent over in pain and it seems as though there was a bit of pain in his left hamstring. McNeil’s attitude towards the injury was cavalier when speaking to reporters and doesn’t want to make an assumption about the injury until he knows how he feels Wednesday.

MLB Network has added three Mets games to their broadcasting schedule; Thursday, August 15 against the Atlanta Braves at 7:15 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, August 20, and Thursday, August 22 at 7 p.m. EDT against the Cleveland Indians, as per the MLB Network PR.

The Mets have been working to improve and renovate their spring training facility, First Data Field, but have hit a bump in the road as their plans have exceeded their budgetary restrictions.
