The Mets signed infielder Danny Mendick to a one-year, $1 million contract, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. He hit .289/.343/.443 in 106 plate appearances for the White Sox last year, but was non-tendered. The Mets will have the 29-year-old for four years of control.

Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated reports that Carlos Correa had already gotten dressed for the SF Giants introductory press conference when he learned it wasn’t happening. Grant Brisbee of The Athletic said that the Giants not signing Carlos Correa was an “absolute disaster.”

As a result of Correa’s contract, the Mets will pay roughly $111 million in luxury tax penalties after all of the offseason signings (more than 10 MLB teams’ payrolls) according to Chris Cwik of Yahoo Sports. Michael Mayer has more information on the Mets’ 2023 payroll.

The Mets traded James McCann to the Orioles, Jeff Passan of ESPN reported. They’ll receive a player to be named later in return, per Mark Feinsand of MLB.
