The Mets optioned Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse after he hit .232/.259/.536 in 56 at-bats in Grapefruit League play. While Vientos led the club with five homers, he also struck out 19 times against just two walks. Fellow infielder Zack Short made the big league roster. As for the final spots on the roster, the Mets will head north with 27 men. Sean Reid-Foley, Michael Tonkin, and Yohan Ramírez are the candidates for the last two spots in the bullpen. DJ Stewart is widely expected to be the final man on the bench, but the Mets haven’t committed to that, leaving open the possibility of a roster addition. Stewart has hit just .189 with a .686 OPS this spring.
