Good morning, Mets fans!

Wednesday afternoon, the Mets (60-60) were able to salvage the third and final game of a three-game set with San Francisco (78-43), and break a five-game losing streak. For a team that’s been losing left and right, being shunned on Twitter by its owner, and entered the night in a 4-for-41 RISP stretch, it’s safe to say this was an important win.

Rookie Tylor Megill shined, holding a dangerous Giants offense to just one run over six innings. He scattered five hits, allowed two walks, and struck out six. Despite Megill’s success, and solid relief work from Miguel Castro and Trevor May, the Mets found themselves trailing to begin the ninth inning, 1-0.

After Pete Alonso was struck on the hand by a Jake McGee fastball (X-rays came back negative), a Michael Conforto single and a J.D. Davis sac fly were enough to tie it up. Edwin Diaz pitched a one-two-three ninth and followed it up with a scoreless 10th, and the Mets finally got that ghost runner home in the top of the 11th, on another Conforto hit. However, a Tommy La Stella RBI single off Jeurys Familia in the home of the 11th negated that. Finally, the struggling Kevin Pillar broke the game open with a three-run blast in the top of the 12th. Jake Reed held it down, and the Mets won, 6-2.

Today, the team plays south of San Francisco, as New York opens a four-game set with the Dodgers on the road. Having just been swept at home, the Mets will look to do anything to take a game or two… or three? I’m not even gonna bother saying four.

It will be Taijuan Walker (7-7, 3.75) for the Mets, and TBA for LA. Walker is coming off of his best start since the All-Star break, when he allowed just one run on two hits over 6 2/3 innings at Citi Field against these Dodgers last week. The game is at 10:10 EST, and will air on SNY, as well as be available for listening on WCBS 880.

Now, let’s get into the briefing.
