Syracuse was supposed to play a doubleheader on Wednesday after Tuesday’s game was postponed due to rain. Only one of Wednesday’s scheduled games will be made up.

AA: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (41-49) 5, Portland Sea Dogs (54-36) 2

Home runs hit by Vientos, Carpio, and Matt Winaker and a strong start by Beggs led Binghamton to their 41st win of the season.

Vientos’ home run was against a 95 mph fastball. It was his 21st of the season and his first since his return to the lineup. His other two hits were a line drive single to center field and a groundball single to right.

Cortes led off the game with a 109 mph single to right field and also singled on a groundball to right field.

Baty’s hit was an infield single hit to Portland’s second baseman. He also made a nice defensive play at third base to get a forceout to end the first inning.

Carpio hit his 19th double of the season on a flyball that went off the left field wall in the fourth inning. He also hit his sixth home run of the season in the eighth inning, a solo shot that extended Binghamton’s lead to 5-2.

Beggs had only giving up one run through six innings pitched before he gave up a leadoff home run and a walk to begin the bottom of the seventh.

Robinson relieved Beggs and stranded the inherited runner. His strikeout rate is now 34.6%.

Holderman pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to get the save. He hit 99 mph with his fastball.

Martinez continued his rehab assignment, batting twice and playing four innings defensively at first base.

Alvarez had a great game, getting on base four times, hitting his eighteenth home run of the season, and stealing his fifth base. His wRC+ since being promoted to Brooklyn is now 131 in 250 plate appearances.

Unfortunately, he appeared to hurt his throwing arm when he threw a ball back to his pitcher in the bottom of the ninth inning and had to leave the game.

Mauricio was on base three times. His single came as a left handed hitter in Brooklyn’s seven run eighth inning. It was a fly ball to center field that drove in Palmer and extended the Cyclones’ lead to 9-7.

Palmer’s hit was a booming go-ahead three-run triple in the eighth inning. It was his fifth triple of the year and his first as a Cyclone.

He was on base twice and stole his 27th bag of the season. He’s now 27-for-32 (84.4%) on the year and 4-for-4 with Brooklyn.

Peroza had two hits. His first was a three run homer on a fly ball to left field that cut Hudson Valley’s lead to 5-4 and he also had a line drive single to start off Brooklyn’s huge eighth inning.

Opp had another tough start. Josh Hejka and Hunter Parsons gave Brooklyn a chance to come back by combining for two runs in 4.1 innings in relief of Opp.

Metoyer got the last three outs of the game. His strikeout rate is now 35.3%.

A-: Tampa Tarpons (61-28) 3, St. Lucie Mets (48-41) 2

Box Score

St. Lucie only managed two hits against Tampa’s pitching staff. One of them was McIlwain’s seventh home run of the year.

Rowdey Jordan, Kevin Kendall, and JT Schwartz combined to go 0-for-10 with a walk and three strikeouts.

Santos’ run of success continued on Wednesday, giving up only two earned runs and pitching into the seventh against a tough lineup. The 20-year-old’s walk rate is now under 10.0%.

Box Score

Young had two line drive singles, one to left field and one to center. The 21-year-old was the 442nd overall pick of this year’s draft.

Bryant continued his rehab assignment. He had a 2.57 ERA in seven innings with St. Lucie earlier this year.
