Tonight, Steven Matz (5-4, 3.93) will face off against southpaw pitcher Max Fried (7-3, 4.11). In Steven Matz‘s last three outings, he gave up 10 earned runs in 18 innings of work. Matz struck out a season-high 10 batters in his outing on June 8 and racked up another 11 in his other two outings combined, while walking six of his opponents.
Max Fried has struggled through his last three outings, his last three post-game lines reveal that he gave up 13 earned runs in 14.2 innings pitched, and he struck out 14 batters and walked five. On the bright side, Steven Matz owns a 5-0 record and 2.78 ERA in eight career starts against the Atlanta Braves.
Jacob deGrom took the mound against a red-hot Braves lineup and opposed RHP Julio Teheran, who hasn’t given up more than one run since May 5. deGrom threw 8.1 innings of scoreless baseball. The offense came to play with 15 hits and 10 runs against the first place Braves. Pete Alonso had his first four-hit game with two doubles, a single an infield hit, and a home run (24th). The rookie reached base in all six plate appearances.
Michael Conforto had two hits including a solo home run(14th) and a double. Yet another great outing from Jeff McNeil with three hits on the day including a solo homer(fourth) of his own. The Mets take game two of their three-game series and even it up at one with a 10-2 win.

Gary Cohen called his 2,000th game Tuesday as the play-by-play announcer for the New York Mets. Cohen reflected on his time working for the Mets and calling the games alongside former Mets Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.
With a 5.87 bullpen ERA (ranked 28th in the Majors), the Mets looked to shake things up with their bullpen for Tuesday’s game and for the near future. The team placed Jeurys Familia on the injured list with a Bennett lesion or “thrower’s exostosis” in his right shoulder.
In addition, the team optioned Drew Gagnon to Triple-A. Despite a decent start to his major league debut, Gagnon has slowly become less of an asset to the bullpen and more of a liability having given up 15 runs in his last seven appearances.
Along with those moves, LHP Daniel Zamora was recalled from the minors and the Mets selected the contract of RHP Stephen Nogosek.
According to Anthony DiComo, relief pitcher, Justin Wilson, had been scratched from his rehab assignment Tuesday due to left elbow tightness.
Hector Santiago, who was designated for assignment by the Mets on June 15th, has cleared waivers and elected free agency per MMO’s own Michael Mayer.
Corey Oswalt is slated to make a rehab start for the Brooklyn Cyclones today in Lowell. He has not pitched since May 26 for the Syracuse Mets.

According to a tweet released from the Boston Red Sox on behalf of Tiffany Ortiz, David Ortiz is said to be in “good” condition by his doctors and continues to progress nicely.
The Yankees have reinstated outfielder Giancarlo Stanton from the injured list.
The first place Twins placed Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list with reoccurring pain in his wrist after being hit by a pitch a few days ago.
The Los Angeles Angeles have released right-handed pitcher Cody Allen. The career 3.14 ERA pitcher has struggled mightily this year in Los Angeles posting a 6.26 ERA in 23 IP giving up 16 earned runs in the process.

The Nationals vs Phillies game was postponed on Monday and will be played as a part of a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday. Their second game of the series scheduled for Tuesday was also postponed and will be played on September 24 as a split doubleheader.
Max Scherzer has suffered a broken nose after a bunt attempt during bunting drills. It is questionable that he will make his start on Wednesday.
