Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets stopped their most recent skid as they took down the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-2, behind a strong pitching effort by David Peterson and an explosive offensive performance.

Peterson, pitching in his first big league game since his mid-May demotion to Triple-A, tossed six scoreless innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Peterson calmed down after a rough first inning where he threw 27 pitches and escaped a bases-loaded jam. This is his first start this season where he did not allow an earned run.

The offense backed up Peterson’s excellent pitching with four home runs. Brandon Nimmo ignited the offense for the night with a solo home run in the fourth to lead off the inning and a two-run shot in the inning after. Francisco Lindor hit his 200th career home run two batters later in the fourth inning. Daniel Vogelbach capped off the Mets four home-run outing with a two-run shot of his own in the sixth inning.

The lone blemish in the Met’s win last night was Jeff Brigham, who allowed the only two Brewers’ runs in the eighth inning.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote an article outlining the three different ways the Mets can handle the upcoming trade deadline given the position they are currently in. Of the three approaches, the last was labeled “heavy renovation” and said that Max Scherzer could potentially waive his no-trade clause given the opportunity to play for a championship-caliber team, which DiComo said industry sources have suggested.

There is also the nuclear option to trade Pete Alonso, as he is the most valuable player the Mets could move, but given the overwhelming rage from fans, if the move were made, he should stay put.
