Following a thrilling comeback victory on Wednesday, the New York Mets experienced a different scenario on Thursday, as they didn’t require any extraordinary heroics. Their offense delivered seven runs within the initial three innings, and their starting pitcher, Carlos Carrasco, extended his impressive performance for the second consecutive night, allowing the Mets to secure a dominant 9-0 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks. In addition to sealing a series sweep against Arizona, the Mets celebrated their fifth consecutive win, while also inflicting the first shutout defeat of the season upon the D-backs. 1964: Shea Stadium hosted its first and only All-Star Game, where the National League emerged victorious with a 7-4 comeback win in the ninth inning. The game drew nearly 51,000 fans, the largest All-Star Game crowd since 1959. Second baseman Ron Hunt was the sole representative of the New York Mets in the lineup, chosen by his fellow National League players and coaches. Despite being selected democratically, NL manager Walter Alston expressed hesitation about starting Hunt. Interestingly, in the bottom of the ninth, Hunt was replaced by Hank Aaron, who struck out. However, it was Johnny Callison who secured the victory for the National League with a walk-off three-run homer against Red Sox pitcher Dick Radatz.
