Good morning, Mets fans!
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns talked to Andy Martino of SNY on Wednesday as MLB gears up for free agency. One of the bigger notes to come out was the Mets’ status with Pete Alonso, with multiple reports noting that the two sides have already begun negotiations. Stearns commented on the report that Alonso would be open to the occasional DH role, saying, “The ability to get his bat in the lineup in multiple ways is helpful and it’s great to know that Pete is open to stuff like that.”
Along with that, Laura Albanese of Newsday reported that the Mets will be tendering a contract to Tyrone Taylor as they continue to look for a solution in center field. Mentioning the need to upgrade their bullpen, he also indicated that they will be looking both internally and externally for long-relief options.
