Reliever Luis Avilán had another impressive performance, firing 1.2 scoreless innings while striking out four. J.D. Davis collected another hit, and he is now hitting .308 with a .833 OPS this spring.

The Mets are off today before returning to West Palm Beach for a matchup against Washington on Thursday.

Tim Britton of the Athletic reported that the Mets have named Jessica Mendoza to a player-evaluation role in the front office. The Mets announced that Mendoza will serve as an advisor in the baseball operations department.

Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen commented on the Mendoza hiring. “Clearly there is a confidentiality agreement and an understanding that anything she gleans from our operation, she’s not going to share and anything she gleans through her work in other clubhouses, she can’t tell us,” Van Wagenen said.

Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News writes that Mets first baseman Dominic Smith recently began wearing a sleep apnea mask to treat his breathing troubles at night. In treating his sleep apnea, Smith responds to pitches faster. “I have more energy now,” Smith said. “I come to the park feeling good.”

Ronald Blum of the Associated Press reports that Major League Baseball and the MLBPA are nearing a deal to expand active rosters to 26 players in 2020. The deal would cut active rosters after Sept.1 from 40 to 28 players.

The Associated Press reports that Giants outfielder Cameron Maybin has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Maybin signed a minor league deal with San Francisco this offseason after spending 2018 with Miami and Seattle.

Lynn Worthy of the Kansas City Star writes that Royals catcher Salvador Perez will have season-ending Tommy John surgery. The five-time gold glove backstop slugged 27 home runs for the Royals in 2018 but will not return to action until 2020.

The Yankees announced that pitcher Luis Severino was scratched from today’s game with right shoulder discomfort. Lindsey Adler of the Athletic reports that Severino has rotator cuff inflammation and will be shut down for two weeks.

Kyle Glaser of Baseball America writes that the Mexican League and MLB have agreed on a new player transfer deal. “All players at least 25 years old or who have six years of professional experience will be eligible to sign with an MLB club,” Glaser writes.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today writes that Dodgers first baseman and outfielder Cody Bellinger will receive a $20,000 raise to $605,000 this season.
