The Mets have acquired outfielder Alexander Canario from the Cubs. The 24-year-old was recently designated for assignment. Canario only has 42 major league at-bats, but has hit as many as 37 homers in a minor league season in 2022. In 2024, Canario batted .243/.336/.514 with 18 homers in 283 plate appearances for Triple-A Iowa.

Pete Alonso hit a two-run double and drew two walks, and Jose Azocar and Chris Williams both hit homers in the Mets’ 7-4 loss against the Cardinals on Monday. Blade Tidwell gave up four hits and three runs in two innings, but all four of his pitches graded out as above-average according to Stuff+.

The Mets head to West Palm Beach to face off against the Astros this afternoon. Austin Warren will take the mound against Ronel Blanco. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.

Sean Manaea revealed Monday that he has a right oblique strain and will likely begin the season on the injured list. However, Will Sammon of The Athletic reported that the team expects to have the left-hander back at some point in April. Until then, the Mets plan to rely on their pitching depth as opposed to making a move for an arm.

Carlos Mendoza told reporters that Nick Madrigal has a fracture in his shoulder and will be sidelined for “a long time”. Even with Madrigal out, Tim Healey of Newsday reports the Mets don’t view Jose Iglesias as a fit for the roster.

In an interview with Rob Friedman (better known as Pitching Ninja), Clay Holmes explained what a kick-change is and why it works better for pitchers who are supinators. The pitch involves pushing the ball so it moves sideways, which Holmes is more comfortable with.

Clover Park drew 13,686 fans over the weekend, the most ever for the first two games of spring training.
