In Mets player development news, Jonah Tong continues to dominate for the Rumble Ponies.

Tong was named the Mets minor league pitcher of the week. In his last start, Tong went five innings with no hits and 11 strikeouts.

For the season, Tong has made 10 starts with a 4-3 record. He currently holds a 2.02 ERA with 83 strikeouts.

Tonight the Mets begin a three-game set vs. the Washington Nationals. Starters for the first game will be Griffin Canning (6-2, 2.90 ERA) facing off against MacKenzie Gore (3-5, 2.87 ERA).

1986: Mets manager Davey Johnson takes out starting second baseman Wally Backman with bases loaded against the Phillies for Tim Teufel. The move would be successful with Teufel hitting a game-winning grand slam.
