Good Morning Mets Fans. The New York Mets will play their division rival, the Washington Nationals today as they send rotation hopeful, Robert Gsellman to the mound. Erick Fedde will pitch for the Nationals in the 1:05 PM ET contest.  Today’s game will not be broadcasted on SNY or WOR, unfortunately.

Yesterday, both Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler were hit hard as the Mets fell to the Marlins by a score of 15-9. The game seemed to pave the way for Gsellman to officially take the fifth spot in the rotation as Wheeler was shaky, allowing four runs on four hits while walking three and striking out one.

LATEST METS NEWS

Curtis Granderson had a productive day at the plate on Wednesday, hitting two homers and possibly solidifying the team’s starting lineup to begin the season. The Grandy-man batted clean-up yesterday in what seemed to be a preview of what the lineup may look like on opening day. Read more from Mike Puma in the NY Post.

Seth Lugo was not at his best on Wednesday night as he pitched for Team Puerto Rico in the finals of the World Baseball Classic against Team USA. Lugo pitched four innings while allowing four runs on five hits as he walked four and struck out seven in his team’s 8-0 loss to the United States. He had a strong performance overall in the classic, opening many eyes and solidifying himself as a valid entry into the team’s rotation, refusing to be looked at as an afterthought. It will be interesting to see if the team has him break camp with the big league club or if he will be sent down to Las Vegas to start the season.

David Wright continues to do everything but throw as he told NJ.com in an abbreviated interview on Wednesday. He is scheduled to see doctors again this week in Port St. Lucie where he hopes to be given a more concrete plan of when he can again resume full baseball activities.

Former Mets and current Atlanta Braves pitchers, Bartolo Colon and R.A. Dickey have some worried about the rough spring the two have had. Big Sexy has allowed 15 runs in 14.2 innings while Dickey has allowed 21 hits in 15 innings. Although spring training numbers mean next to nothing, Atlanta’s beat writers and their fans are already nervous of what may be to come for the two veteran hurlers in 2017.
