Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported that former Mets closer Edwin Díaz, now of the Dodgers, is going on the IL with loose bodies in his elbow. Alden González of ESPN added that Díaz is slated to undergo surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow. The expectation is he’ll miss somewhere in the neighborhood of three months.

The Mets, meanwhile, return to Citi Field trying to end an ugly 11-game losing streak. They’ll be going with their best pitcher so far this season, Nolan McLean (1-1, 2.28 ERA).

Betsy Helfand of the Pioneer Press reported that the Twins are placing Mick Abel on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. Simeon Woods Richardson will start Tuesday instead of Abel. The Twins are TBD for Wednesday.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET.

David Schoenfield of ESPN reported in an article previewing early trade deadline moves for all 30 MLB teams that Jonah Tong is the most likely to be traded. Should things completely fall apart, Schoenfield said that Freddy Peralta and Clay Holmes could be candidates as well.
