Good morning, Mets fans!

Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar began his rehab assignment last night with Single-A Brooklyn. Escobar went 2-for-4 with an RBI. He played seven innings at shortstop, making all four plays hit to him, including starting two 6-4-3 double plays.

The Mets opened their homestand after a much needed day off, with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies. Jacob deGrom toed the slab and pitched six strong innings along with a Pete Alonso two-run homer to bolster the Mets to a win. For more, here’s our recap of last night’s game.

Joey Lucchesi, rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, tossed two scoreless innings in his second rehab start with Single-A St. Lucie. He threw 14 pitches, 10 for strikes and five of them were churves.

Today, elected officials & School Construction Authority will come together with members of 1969 World Series Champion Mets for a school naming ceremony in Queens. People in attendance will dedicate I.S. 419 as the Tommie L. Agee Educational Campus in honor of the legendary Mets outfielder.

St. Louis Cardinals designated hitter Albert Pujols and catcher Yadier Molina received a gift from the Chicago Cubs, which were their respective numbers from the old manual scoreboard in center field.

The Philadelphia Phillies announce that they have placed pitcher Zack Wheeler on the 10-day IL (retroactive to 8/22) with right forearm tendinitis.

1996: The New York Mets promote Bobby Valentine from Triple-A Norfolk to become the team’s new major league manager. Valentine managed the Mets from 1997 to 2002 and totaled 563 wins and 467 losses. During his tenure, the Mets made the playoffs in two consecutive seasons for the first time in franchise history in 1999 and 2000. The Mets would win the National League Pennant in 2000 with Valentine at the helm.
