Good morning, Mets fans!

The Dodgers stayed alive on Thursday, bashing the Braves 11-2 in Game 5 of the NLCS to send the series back to Atlanta. Chris Taylor had three home runs and six RBIs in the victory. Game 6 of the series will be played on Saturday at Truist Park in Atlanta.

On Friday, the Houston Astros look to advance to the World Series as Game 6 of the ALCS is played. The Astros lead the series 3-2. Nathan Eovaldi gets the start for Boston, who look to try and force a Game 6. Luis Garcia opposes Eovaldi. The game will start at 8:08 p.m. ET at Minute Maid Park in Houston.

The Mets have an extremely busy offseason ahead of them. One of the first things the club needs to do is hire a President of Baseball Operations. The first three reported candidates, Theo Epstein, Billy Beane and David Stearns all are now off the table due to various reasons.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post there is a new list of candidates the Mets may consider for the position. They are Josh Byrnes and Brandon Gomes of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Scott Harris of the San Francisco Giants, Matt Arnold from the Milwaukee Brewers and Peter Bendix from the Tampa Bay Rays.

The New York Yankees announced last week that three coaches would not be returning to their roles in 2022. You can add one more to the list. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, first base coach Reggie Willits will be leaving the Yankees organization at the end of his contract, which runs through December. He will join the coaching staff of the University of Oklahoma as a volunteer assistant. Willits had been with the Yankees since the 2018 season.

The Players Choice Awards finalists have been announced for the 2021 season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Shohei Ohtani, and Bryce Harper have been selected as the finalists for Player of the Year. The winners will be announced on Thursday, October 28 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Other categories in the Players Choice Awards include Outstanding Player Award, Outstanding Pitcher Award, Outstanding Rookie Award, Comeback Player Award and the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award. Since 1992 the Players Choice Awards have recognized outstanding players on and off the field. The player voting took place in mid-September.

Gary Carter’s big day brought the Mets even in the World Series on this date in 1986. Starting the day the Mets were behind the Red Sox two games to one in the series. Ron Darling got the ball for the Mets in game four against left-hander Al Nipper. Darling would dazzle, throwing seven innings of shutout ball. His batterymate would provide some offense. Carter’s first home run gave the Mets a 2-0 lead in the fourth. The Mets tacked on two more in the seventh courtesy of a Lenny Dykstra home run. Carter’s second homer of the day gave the Mets a 6-0 lead and they would hold on to win by a score of 6-2 to even the series at two games apiece.
