The Mets will host the Baltimore Orioles this afternoon at First Data Field with Jacob deGrom on the mound. DeGrom made his first start of the spring on Sunday against the Houston Astros.
“I feel healthy, that was the main thing,” deGrom said after the game per the New York Post. “I felt good, so I will be back out there in five days.”
The 29-year-old brought the heat as his fastball peaked at 98 MPH and he will get the chance to do so once again today at 1:10 p.m.

The Mets received sad news Thursday night as World Series Champion Ed Charles passed away at the age of 84.
“Ed Charles, our beloved Glider and Poet Laureate of the 1969 Mets, was one of the kindest and warmest people ever to be a Met. His essays and poems inspired his teammates to the improbable World Series championship,” the Mets said in a statement.
The Mets fell at home to the Miami Marlins by a score of 7-6 on Thursday.
However, one of the biggest stories out of the game was Matt Harvey‘s start. After allowing five runs, six hits and one walk while striking out two in 4 2/3 innings last time, Harvey allowed three runs, six hits and one walk while striking out eight this time.
While Neil Walker is now a New York Yankee after signing a one-year, $4 million contract with the Bronx Bombers, he could’ve been a Met had both sides agreed on the three-year, $42 million deal that was reportedly offered last offseason according to Ken Davidoff of the New York Post.
“Yeah, but that wasn’t on me. I accepted that deal and it was not accepted from the other side,” he said. “Regardless of any situations in the past, I can’t let any of this stuff affect me moving forward. This is too good of a team here. This is too good of a situation.”
The Mets’ catching duo of Travis d’Arnaud and Kevin Plawecki will be teaming up today to treat children from the YMCA to a lunch, a game and a meet-and-greet according to Tim Healy of Newsday.
