Good morning Mets fans! The World Series will be held in the nation’s capital on Friday night for the first time since the Washington Senators hosted the New York Giants during the 1933 World Series.

The Major League Baseball Players Association named Pete Alonso the 2019 National League Outstanding Rookie.

The Major League Baseball Players Association also named Jacob deGrom the 2019 National League Outstanding Pitcher.

Rawlings Sports announced their 2019 Gold Glove finalists, but no Mets were chosen as finalists. The Mets have not had a Gold Glove finalist since Curtis Granderson in 2015 and have not had a Gold Glove winner since Juan Lagares in 2014.

The Houston Astros fired assistant general manager Brandon Taubman and apologized for their initial response after investigating the controversial comments he made during the Astros’ ALCS clubhouse celebration on Oct. 19.

The Chicago Cubs hired David Ross as their manager. Ross agreed to a three-year contract with a team option for 2023.

The San Diego Padres hired Jayce Tingler as their manager according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Tingler is currently managing Leones del Escogido in the Dominican winter league and worked as the Texas Rangers major league player development field coordinator during the 2019 MLB season.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters that Aaron Hicks will undergo Tommy John surgery for his throwing arm and will miss 8-10 months. Cashman also mentioned that Luke Voit underwent core muscle surgery and Masahiro Tanaka underwent a procedure to remove spurs from his right elbow.

The Boston Red Sox interviewed Tampa Bay Rays vice president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom, according to Chad Jennings of The Athletic.

The Nationals will send Anibal Sanchez (11-8, 3.85 ERA) to the mound on Friday night as they seek a 3-0 series lead. The Astros will counter with Zack Greinke (18-5, 2.93 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. EDT and game coverage will be provided by FOX.

The Philadelphia Phillies hired Joe Girardi as their manager. Girardi agreed to a three-year contract with a team option for 2023.

President Donald Trump told reporters that he plans on attending Game 5 of the World Series at Nationals Park, if the series goes five games.

The Miami Marlins hired James Rowson to be their bench coach and offensive coordinator, according to Passan of ESPN. Rowson most recently served as the Minnesota Twins hitting coach.

1961: The Mets signed Ted Lepcio, who became their first player with major league experience. Lepico was later cut by the Mets in spring training.

1986: The Mets defeated the Red Sox 6-5 in Game 6 of the World Series after being down by two runs in the bottom of the 10th, with nobody on base and two outs. After a rally, the Mets ended up tying the game on a wild pitch and winning the game on a ball hit by Mookie Wilson that went through Bill Buckner‘s leg.

2000: The Mets dropped Game 4 of the World Series by a score of 3-2. The Mets’ only two runs came off a Mike Piazza home run. With the homer, Piazza became the first player to hit a World Series home run at both Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium.
