Carlos Correa sat out a second straight game on Monday due to back tightness. Correa was initially listed in the starting lineup for the Twins’ Monday afternoon matchup with the White Sox but was scratched an hour before the first pitch. Manager Rocco Baldelli said he expected this issue to only cost the shortstop one or two days.

Max Scherzer battled through five innings, and the Mets strung together rallies in the third and seventh innings to beat Yu Darvish for the first time in his career, 5-0. Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor both hit two-run doubles, and two picture-perfect ground balls from Luis Guillorme and Tomás Nido aided the three-run seventh. The Mets’ pitching staff issued six walks and fell into 10 full counts, but they allowed just two hits and struck out 14.

David Peterson (0-1, 6.00 ERA) will take the hill against Ryan Weathers (0-0, 3.60 ERA) in the second game of the series against the Padres tonight. Peterson is looking to rebound after he was knocked around for five runs, five hits, and five walks in four-plus innings against the Brewers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm.

Starling Marte sat out Monday’s game because his neck was sore, but Buck Showalter said the team thinks the All-Star outfielder has avoided a concussion. Marte exited Sunday’s game after the first inning after he slid into Jean Segura‘s knee while stealing a base.
