1969 – The Mets trade Amos Otis to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for third baseman Joe Foy. Otis would go on to hit .277/.343/.425 with 2,020 hits over the course of his 17-year career. Foy would be out of the league by 1972.
1974 – The Mets trade fan-favorite Tug McGraw, who coined the phrase “Ya Gotta Believe” in the team’s magical run to the World Series in 1973, to the Phillies (Don Hahn and Dave Schneck also included) for Del Unser, Mac Scarce, and John Stearns, who would become a staple behind the plate in Queens over the next decade.
