LATEST METS NEWS

Jay Bruce continued his strong spring on Wednesday in the Mets 8-7 win over the Boston Red Sox. When he went 2 for 3 with a double, home run, three runs batted in and made a fine sliding catch in right field. In six games this spring Bruce is slashing .417/.533/.750 with three walks compared to only two strikeouts.

Former NFL player Tim Tebow made his Grapefruit League debut against the Red Sox and failed at the plate as well as before he got to the plate. The Mets designated hitter went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts, hit by a pitch and hit into a double play with the bases loaded and nobody out. He got doubled off first base on a sharp line dive the only time he got on. Tebow embarrassed himself before his first at-bat by walking across to the Red Sox batting circle thinking that was where lefty hitters warmed up. Jacob deGrom kidded, “I won’t tell anybody but I saw it.” Read more from columnist John Harper from the NY Daily News.

Mets ace Noah Syndergaard threw 2.1 scoreless innings in his second start of the spring. However, he did allow three hits, walked one and struck out only one as he struggled with his command. After the game, Thor told reporters that he hopes to emulate the soft landing foot mechanics of former teammate Bartolo Colon. “Where he would land, there would be essentially no foot mark because he would land so soft,” Syndergaard said of Colon. “That’s what I’m trying to get to.” Read more from beat writer Anthony DiComo from Mets.com.

NL EAST RUMBLINGS

The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals have showed interest in former Mets outfielder Angel Pagan whom remains a free agent. Pagan has only received minor league deals to this point and said this in regards to that, ”I just don’t feel I need to be fighting for a job, if a team wants me to help a team win, they know I can help them win.” Pagan is hoping to show teams what he has left in the tank while playing for Puerto Rico in the WBC.
